Shrove Tuesday (also known in  Commonwealth  countries and  Ireland  as Pancake Tuesday or Pancake Day) is the day in February or March immediately preceding  Ash Wednesday  (the first day of  Lent ), which is celebrated in some countries by consuming  pancakes .
In others, especially those where it is called  Mardi Gras  or some translation thereof, this is a  carnival  day, and also the last day of \u00abfat ating\u00bb or \u00abgorging\u00bb before the fasting period of Lent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Martes de Carnaval o Martes de Pancake, en el  Calendario cristiano , es el \u00faltimo d\u00eda de  Carnaval , fecha festiva que antecede al  Mi\u00e9rcoles de Ceniza , inicio de la  Cuaresma.
El origen de esas celebraciones se remonta a fiestas paganas de tiempos precristianos, que correspond\u00edan al ritmo de las estaciones y de los trabajos agr\u00edcolas.
La tradici\u00f3n de celebrar el carnaval sigue muy viva en muchos pa\u00edses de  Europa  y  Am\u00e9rica.
La fecha de su celebraci\u00f3n es variable, ya que se fija 40 d\u00edas antes de la fiesta cristiana del  Domingo de Ramos , y este no depende del  calendario gregoriano (exclusivamente solar) sino del antiguo  calendario solar\/lunar. Para el cristianismo, este domingo es el anterior al  Domingo de Pascua, que cae siempre entre el  22 de marzo  y el  25 de abril , por lo que el Martes de Carnaval caer\u00e1 siempre entre el  3 de febrero  y el  9 de marzo  (un d\u00eda m\u00e1s tarde si cae en febrero y el a\u00f1o es bisiesto).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
